Put your baby to bed early (7pm). Put him on a routine. The routines are something like this: Eat, Activity, Sleep in three-hour segments. Eating and then having an activity will prevent him from becoming dependent on nursing to go to sleep. At first it's really hard to keep them from sleeping while they nurse (you'll be sleepy, too; it's that Oxytocin), but just be aware that if you teach him to nurse in order to get to sleep, he'll become more and more dependent on it, especially if it continues past the 2nd month.
On that note, most habits can easily be broken before the 3rd month. After that it gets more and more difficult. Just be aware that you are teaching him habits, so start as you mean to go on.
Snuggle with him while he's a newborn. They change sooooo fast!
Take him in to get pictures right after you get home from the hospital. They change so, so fast. By a week old they lose that newborn look.
You will be changing newborn diapers all the time. Watch out for projectile poop and always put a tissue on his pee-pee as soon as you open his diaper. I'm sure you already know why!
Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. Whenever you can.
Enjoy the hospital: you get taken care of!
Buy a boppy pillow for nursing. I LOVE nursing. Love it! It's so healthy and good for babies. It's way convenient, too.
About parenting in general, remember that sometimes it may seem like your child is an annoyance or inconvenience. This may be true, but remember that you brought him into the world, and now it is your responsibility to teach him all you can. You are here for them; they aren't here for you. They grow and change so very fast.
I have no doubt you will love being a mother. It's so much better than being childless. You'll at least have constant entertainment and no reason to be bored!
Yeah! We need to start a count down chain. Here is my advice, live in the moment, it goes by so fast. Soon you will not have the reminder of his presence with his kicks, enjoy them - but each stage just keeps getting more amazing. I can't wait for you to share holding him!
Only one month! My gosh it is coming so fast. We really need to get together to see all that cute baby stuff. Did you guys have a fun time on Saturday?
Congrats! and good luck! The last month can be a little uncomfortable! And I don't really have any great ideas, I just started to realize I should be getting ready for our little one!!
It is coming so fast. I can't wait! Let's coordinate on Saturday. Time, place, etc. I hope it's not too late :-) although maybe you are hoping that he comes already! Just a few more weeks.
