Salesmen

How is it every salesman out there knows where I live? This week I had the Kirby people come to my house and clean my floors, trying to convince me to buy there $2000 vacuum. Well, this isn't the first time they have come to my house. They came last year and cleaned my floors. It was easy to say no to a $2000 purchase that I wasn't planning on buying.... Then last year James bought some blue cleaner from some guy who gave a spill about not being able to walk from some disease. And is trying to make money for his son back east somewhere. So of course James felt guilty and bought $40 cleaner which is the same at windex. But the year before that I was convinced to buy that same cleaner but it was green from a lady who was recovering from Katrina. She called me the "Diva of the house". I felt cool after that.... The young boys trying to sale news papers to raise money for soccer, People giving free quotes on things in your yard that you never thought of, just to get your business.... They come all the time. I need a peek hole on my door. I can get sucked into things.... We have $80 of cleaner that we never use..... I guess what I am saying is, now that I stay home, how much more am I going to buy because I can't say NO?!?!?!

HA, although it is an awakward moment at the door, it makes for good stories! I totally hear your pain - let me in on the tricks to say no.

Put a "No Solicitors" sticker on your door!

You're not obligated to buy anything if it's not a service you need. Just recognize their rhetoric, that they try to get you to like them or feel for them. Jay and I once went to a Fire Safety dinner and signed up to have someone come by to see what we needed in our apartment. Well, when they came, they were very friendly, and we ended up having alarms put throughout the house. It cost about $1,200 for five alarms, or something. Well, Jay didn't sleep for two nights, so we called and had them come get the stuff and cancel the transaction. Jay and I decided to never let a salesman into our home again. They are trained to tug at our emotions.
